I am a Research Associate at Insight, Centre for Data Analytics, National University of Ireland, Galway, working in the Unit for Natural Language Processing (UNLP) under supervision of Dr. Paul Buitelaar.
I have been a researcher and project manager on a number of national and international funded projects:
- Book recommendation (CARS),
- News archive exploration (Smartie – IrishTimes Smart Insight Extractor),
- Government tenders opportunity discovery (GOTO),
- Aspect-based sentiment analysis (EuroSentiment),
- Multimodal and multilingual emotion analysis (MixedEmotions)
as well as the technical manager of the Saffron project.
Previously I have been working in the DI2 - Data Intensive Infrastructure as Research Assistant under the supervision of Dr. Giovanni Tummarello where I developed an RDF model for Language Resources in the multilingual, multi domain and sentiment analysis context. I have also contributed the Cloudspaces project in creating and testing end-to-end flows and I was in charge with building and maintaining the Sindice Sparql endpoint. I contributed to creating the Sindice Data Model to represent the available website and dump datasets and with another colleague of mine I built the Sindice Data Acquisition Console to monitor and manage the domains acquisition for the Sindice search engine.
In 2011 I was awarded the MSc.Eng. Degree from National University of Ireland, Galway with the topic “Business Process Model Discovery using Semantic Annotations”. My thesis was focused on extending the business process modeller oryx-editor to enable business process model discovery, developing a set of algorithms for aggregating functional and non functional properties of business processes using propositional logic and developing an RDF vocabulary for business processes to annotate existing business process files using RDFa.
In 2006 I received the Engineering Diploma in Computer Science from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania with the thesis developed at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute on Dynamic Web Service Composition. My interests are big data, linguistic linked data and semantic technologies.
