  • In this talk we present different optimisation problems related to the operation of data centres and virtual machine assignment, and study their relation to bin packing. The use of virtual machines for packaging user services has allowed a large improvement in running data centres more efficiently.

  • I recently attended ICT 2015 and ICTAC 2015. I would like to share some insight gained during my participation in both events. In the latter I presented a paper entitled: "Extending the Notion of Preferred Explanations for Quantified Constraint Satisfaction Problems” co-authored with Deepak Mehta and Barry O'Sullivan.   • In order to use language resources for new purposes they must first be discovered and this can only be done if there is a comprehensive list of all resources that may be available. The Lider project developed linghub.org a linked data portal combining language resource metadata from four independent sources and mapping them to a common RDF schema based on DCAT and Dublin Core.

  • This talk will present some results, tools and ideas that relate to the Minimal Constraint Satisfaction Problem (Minimal CSP for short). A CSP instance is minimal if each of its compatibilities is part of a solution. The Minimal CSP arises in a large number of real-world applications, most notably in constraint-based product configuration.
